January Weight Loss Update: 5 Things that Helped Me Lose Weight

February 5, 2019

Let me start off by saying no matter what my weight is, I’m going to make the best of it. Even though I can make it “Do what it Do” doesn’t mean I still don’t want to get back to my “Happy” size and or weight. My entire closet is filled with clothes for my Happy size. I think we all have a Happy size.

In October after my trip to Turks and Caicos where I drunk and ate around the clock, I was over it. I was at my highest weight outside of being pregnant. I was actually wasn’t that far away from my delivery weight. That’s when I told myself I had to do something. I did. I ate right and shed a few pounds in just two weeks. Then Thanksgiving came. I threw it all out the window. Then the holidays came and I experienced seasonal depression for a couple of weeks. Food was my comfort. I gained everything I lost back and then some. I could only wear sweatpants. I was over it. So I decided it was time for me to get it together.

I shared my fitness plan HERE. I was already working out a few days a week consistently, I just needed to get this eating in check. I did! I only drunk a few times the whole month of January compared to having a wine a few times a week and going HAM on the weekends.

My before picture is from mid November. It’s going to have to do because I couldn’t bring myself to take new ones over the holidays.

One month later. My stomach has gone down so much! I swear I look pregnant in the left photo. I feel good and I can fit in a few pair of jeans. I’ve lost 7 pounds in January but I swear it looks like I lost 20! This goes to show, don’t get caught up in the scale.

In addition to everything I said I was going to do HERE, there are a few things that made helped tremendously.

  1. Stop worrying about the kids. I think one of the main things that hold moms back from losing weight is worrying about what everyone else was going to do. F them! I say that in the most sincere way. If they enjoyed the dinners I prepared, great. If not, they ate a sandwich, nuggets or a pizza. As long as they were fed, I didn’t stress. We have to put ourselves first for once. I did and everyone lived.
  2. Meal planning. Knowing what you’re going to eat every day makes it less stressful and easier to stay on track. I meal planned the entire month of January after being inspired by Mimi sharing her monthly plan. Planning and having everything you need at home makes it easier to stay on track. I actually don’t even want to eat out anymore because there is nothing but temptation out there and I have good food at home.
  3. Every day is a new day. I had some days where I went HAM. Instead of giving up, I just said to myself I would try again tomorrow. Don’t give up just because you have one bad weekend. Get knocked down 9 times, Get up 10 (Cardi B).
  4. Log everything. I’m still working on this but I know when I logged everything I was eating, I stayed on track. I even logged cookies I ate. It keeps you in check. Also helps you to make better decisions.
  5. Do what works for you. About two weeks ago I decided to dust off my Weight Watchers account. I did it because it has been the only thing that has worked for me. Since I am still eating a few carbs, WW helps me keep it in check. I don’t even look at WW as a “diet” but a lifestyle plan. It allows me to eat things I like without feeling restricted. I still lose weight. I looked at several of the trendy plans out there and they aren’t for me. I know several that had success but I don’t want to start something that I’m not happy about because I know I will fail. Do what works for you. It’s ok to switch up.

So that’s my January. I’m super excited to get to my Happy size. January was hard but I know I could go harder. I’ve got a closet full of beautiful clothes waiting for me. Click HERE for more details on what I’ve been doing. Make sure you follow me on IG stories (@babyshopa), that’s where I share quick, delicious and easy meals almost daily.

How are your fitness goals coming along? If you’ve already derailed, just remember there is always tomorrow. We can do it!

Congratulations on the weight (and inches) loss! I know exactly what you mean by not being at my happy weight. I too am right there with you. I am at my heaviest that I have ever been except for when I was pregnant. Mind you my youngest is 12 years old so this is beyond baby weight. LOL! I love the tips and will be adding a couple of those to my weight loss plan as well. Thanks for the encouragement! Keep going girl, you got this!
