Real Wives Please Stand Up!

May 27, 2012

We are all guilty!

We love watching the Housewives Series!  ATL and NYC are my faves!  There are several spin offs to the “Wives” show.  We got Mob, Football, Baseball, X Games, Hip Hop and of course the infamous Basketball Wives!  That is when it all went H-E double hockey sticks!

I would not say I was a fan of the show but I did watch for laughs… until the recent episodes.  It was not fun or funny to watch anymore.  I even stopped tweeting!  Yall know how I can go in on twitter (follow me HERE).  I witnessed some real life grown woman bullying!  It almost had me in tears!  I wanted to go through the screen and fight the battle the poor little lady that was being bullied.  VH1 should not have even aired the season!  I made had me so upset.  I should not feel that way after watching a show.  I have not watched since that episode.  Rumors are that they are canceling the show and they should.

Now my other issue is how these ladies are representing us as Wives (Girlfriends & Mothers) and especially as Black Wives.  This is not my reality!  I don’t meet up with ladies to throw bottles or take someones purse.  Now all these shows are a hot mess but do you think the ones with Black women stand out more?  I would love to hear your thoughts.  I would love for my Non-Black wives/girlfriends/mothers to weigh in!  What do you think about this representation of women?

I think it is ashamed how these women behave. I was so upset by the last few episodes that I am going to stop watching. It’s not entertaining anymore.

i believe reality shows are all scripted and the ladies have to behave in a way that is entertaining for the viewers and far from everyday life

I don’t really watch any of these shows for the reasons you mentioned. I just can’t relate to grown women fighting over pettiness like they’re in high school.

This is exactly the reason why I don’t watch these type of shows, and believe me I watch a bunch of gooberish shows 🙂 The ladies are just too much for me.

The “wives” show have run OUT. #1 Rarely are any of the women wives; especially when it comes to black women. Secondly all of the fighting and low class behavior has become a bit disgusting. I am not easy to fret but I have stopped watching Basketball Wives all together because it is ridiculous. I enjoy low brow entertainment within reality shows but it’s now too trashy.

When it comes to wives shows, Bravo is the only channel I’m watching. But I’ve even slacked off on watching that. However, I think that they are not willing forgo their no tolerance for on camera violence. And that much I have to applaud them for because we all have differences and arguments but it should never ever get physical. It only takes a second to hit somebody the wrong way and they’re seriously or fatally injured.

It was a novelty in the beginning but now becoming more wrestling matches without any entertainment!! At least wrestling has a plot line!

I used to watch RHOA. The more loud, aggressive, and violent they became it was no longer entertaining for me. I just stopped watching all together. As a black woman I think that we have to be careful about the type of representation that we choose to support. There are limited representations of us on televisions and all I see is the nonreality television showing us as materialistic, violent, and aggressive. I just don’t want to be apart of supporting that.

I think it also made more likely to gossip. I would watch and I couldn’t wait to tear apart what the person did or wore. I was becoming this person tearing down people I don’t know. People who are getting paid to carry out a script that is being fed as reality for entertainment purposes.
