Our “Dollar Tree” Christmas Tree

December 8, 2011

So I haven’t done a full out Christmas since I was like 12!  Our family stopped putting up Christmas Trees since then, with an occasional Charlie Brown tree (little tree).  Now we have Peyton so she knows what is going on this year so we had to get a tree.  I wanted a fake one because I always think a squirrel is going to come out like on National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation but Mister insisted on a real one.

Now for the decorations!  I am starting from scratch.  I quickly learned that decorations are expensive.  I would rather spend that money on clothes for Peyton!  Hobby Lobby had 50% off Holiday decorations last weekend but Peyton decided to drop a load while I was looking around and we had to leave.  So I took her home and headed back to Hobby Lobby.  There is a Dollar Tree next to my Hobby Lobby so I ran in there first just to see what they had.  JACKPOT!  The have pretty decent tree decorations.

They had Christmas bulb packages of 15 for $1!  I got some nicer ones of 5 for $1.   So after about $25 in Dollar Tree, here is our tree!

I am in no way a decorated so this is what you get!  I think it’s a start.

Here are the bulbs up close. I am not sure what they are made of but its not really glass so they are not easy for Peyton to break. I still need to fill in some more spaces but this tree works for me.

I usually go with a color and I go all over the place to find the decor for the tree. This year my color is ice blue and silver which has been the same color since 4 years ago. I am to cheap to buy new decorations. The dollar store has great stuff also kmart. I also bought some stuff from belk back in my home town.

Your tree is super Cute!! I usually do a different color scheme every year and that can get pretty expensive so what I do is @ the end of the season everything starts to go on Clearance and that is when I “RACK UP” for the next year.

I had a question for you, I have a Christmas Party to attend to on tomorrow it starts @ 7pm and it’s a womens only function (Church Women). The attire is Dressy Casual “What do you think would be good?” I’m thinking jeans, a nice top and I have some shoes from Shoe Dazzle that I have had for months and still haven’t worn them they are open-toe, sparkly turquoise color.

I just moved here from GA and this will be my first outing w/ these ladies so I don’t wanna be like “BAM I’ve arrived” lol but I still wanna be “FLY” Tia. You feel me??

So what do you think, sorry so wordy and long but I had to ask.

Beautiful tree and such deals! Christmas is huge in my family so I haven’t ever bought decorations. I just have the one’s that have been passed down to me from other relatives. It is so much fun to decorate and hang the same ornaments that hung on my Great Grandparent’s tree:)

I want to get little trees for Otto and Ava’s rooms and will be heading out to the dollar tree to pick up ornaments to fill in the gaps in their trees.

I got some of those same glitter ornaments and put them in clear vases and bowls for our bookshelves. Then I hung them from the garland on our mantle, as well as added them to a plain wreath I got from Walmart last year on clearance. Easy and cheap decorating, yes, please!

Don’t you just love the Dollar Store?! Your tree is HUGE compared to ours. It’s tall and skinny. I don’t like the real trees either. I hate having to water them and clean up all the pine needles. But, they are very pretty though.

I haven’t put up mine as of yet but last year it was pink, silver, purple and turquoise. I love decorating and I put silk flowers and butterflies in it too lol I know not very Christmasy but it was so pretty.

    I think you scored big.

I’m not much of a holiday person so I didn’t put up a tree. As an adult, I’ve never had a tree. I typically go on vacation for Christmas.

I think it turned out fabulous and you didn’t break the bank! My stepdaughter will be gone this year so we are not even doing a tree and I don’t feel bad. I dont get out of school (work) until right before Christmas so there is no time for all of that anyway! Do I sound like a grinch? lol I am not:) I’ll visit my mom- she’ll have one big enough for all of us:) Lol @ the squirrel popping out:)

I have an artificial 7ft pre-lite tree that I love. Believe it or not, I have same decorations from 2001 or 2002, so they r about 10yrs old, lol. This year I decided to buy a few more bulbs and got a great deal from home depot, 18 large bulbs for 6 bucks. Im really good with keeping up with stuff, considering my decor traveled 1000 miles when I moved to texas in 04′.

I like to shop for Christmas decorations at Walmart the day after Christmas. They’re as low as 90% off. Last year I got ornaments for like 25 cents. I also hit up the Dollar Tree after Christmas and got some for almost free!
