Tidying Up: Coat Closet Makeover

February 7, 2019

Getting my Marie Kondo on and decided to clean out my coat closet next to my garage door entrance. This closet has been a catchall for my husband. He put any and everything in there. I only used the closet to house paper towels and my broom. This is the last closet that doesn’t have new shelving. I think that’s why I didn’t use it. I finally decided to tackle it. Check out my before and after.

Here is the before. Told y’all it was a mess. I pride myself on keeping my house clean, but just like everyone else, there are those spaces that are a hot mess that you don’t want anyone to see. For the last year I’ve been going around my house and tackling those spaces.

I started by taking everything out. I donated have the stuff that was in there and all the stuff on the shelves was trash.

I did a custom Elfa closet from The Container Store during their sale. Because the closet is small, it didn’t cost much. I added in a door system to hold small items like umbrellas, bags and sweaters.

I added baskets to hold hats, gloves and small tools.

Mister loves to lay mail, phones, keys, and wallets on my kitchen counter so the top basket on the door is dedicated to him. I also started putting my small purse in the bottom basket.

The closet is so clean that I feel like I need to put more stuff in it but I’m not. Once it gets warmer I will probably add pools items I’m happy that we have a clean and organized space to help us get out the house faster.

Have you been inspire to tidy up?

I have been tidying up here and there over the last few months but watching Tidying Up has given me a boost. I’ve touched up a few areas of the apartment but my main focus is our bedroom, specifically, my clothes and hair/beauty products. It’s coming together nicely and I plan to share soon!
