Baby Fashions Back to School Education Parenting

Summer School is in Session

June 15, 2016

We are almost 3 weeks in to summer break and I’m still trying to get my life together.  It’s hard to believe Peyton is headed to 1st grade!  She did an amazing job in kindergarten so I’m going to brag on her for a bit.  Her teacher shared with me that Peyton was one of the strongest readers in the class.  She was also in the top math group for kindergarten.  She did this all while playing basketball and doing gymnastics throughout the year.  I’m so proud of my baby.  I don’t want her to lose momentum so I’m making her do a little bit of summer school during the week.  I thought I would share our easy summer school plan with you guys. summer school 1

In Peyton’s kindergarten class they did quite a bit of geography.  Peyton loves maps and drawing them as well.  Being a former logistics professional, I share her passion for maps and geography.  I picked up this felt wall map so she can learn her states and capitals this summer.  The workbook is from Target’s Dollar Spot and features worksheets teaching her about each state in the US.

Peyton is an artist, so we will be doing some fun projects once a week.  They will consist of painting, writing books and making fashion magazines. summer school 3

We’ll be doing lots of reading.  Again, Peyton is a strong reader but I want to make sure she continues on that track.  Mister has instructed her to read at least one book a day to Harper.  That’s win win!  I plan to start introducing chapter books over the summer.  If you have any recommendations please leave them in the comments.

Outside of art and reading, Peyton will be working on workbooks.  Every day, she is required to do 2 pages in the workbook.  You can pick up some good workbooks at Dollar Tree and Target’s Dollar Spot.  Not sure about your Target, but my mine recently stocked the dollar spot with a lot of back to school items.  Go now!

That’s our summer school plan.  I know it sounds like a lot but I think an hour a day will get the job done.  Do you have a summer school plan?  Please share in the comments.

Keep her learning year round! I know you allow her to still have her playtime and fun activities but the learning needs to be constant in my opinion. Love your ideas!!
